Children's site takes on Google

Posted 08/07/2004

Google, the search engine giant, is facing a legal challenge from the company behind a children's website.

Stelor Productions owns the domain name www.googles.com, which features games, music and other content aimed at younger web users based around three fictional characters - The Googles from Planet Goo.

The company claims that it has been in talks with Google about an out of court settlement but has been unable to reach an agreement.

Stelor says that it has owned the googles.com domain name for seven years.

Press reports suggest that the legal action was launched this week following a trademark application from Google, which is looking to break into the children's retail market.

Google is also facing a separate legal challenge over the use of the Gmail trademark.© DeHavilland Information Services plc
