Google secures Picasa dealPosted 14/07/2004
Internet search engine, Google, has agreed a deal to buy Picasa, the online photo sharing service.
Picasa allows users to manage digital images and share them with their friends via a peer-to-peer network.
The move comes as Google prepares for its stock market launch. Yesterday, the search engine said it would list on the Nasdaq exchange.
Analysts canvassed by the New York Times said the purchase comes as part of Google's efforts to expand potential destinations for advertising.
Picasa was set up three years ago. Details of the deal have not yet been published. © DeHavilland Information Services plc
