New "automatic" search engine launchedPosted 23/07/2004
A new search engine has been launched which eliminates the searching part of search engines.
The search facility, entitled "Blinkx", automatically retrieves information relative to the information on a user's computer screen after software is installed, a Californian based web site reveals.
The smart search works as the software continually reviews what the user is reading and sweeps the web and the user's computer to generate links related to the concepts it reads.
The search engine is able to automatically scour Web sites, news sites, video and audio sources, Web logs and the local hard drive to supply the links.
Blinkx co-founder Kathy Rittweger said: "When we were developing Blinkx, we learned that people really just wanted to get to their destination. They're not interested in the machinations and complexity of the engine...so we simply put the engine back under the hood where it belongs." © DeHavilland Information Services plc
