South Korea aims to improve Internet servicesPosted 29/07/2004
The South Korean Government is endeavoring to enhance the country's global status by accelerating its drive towards the next-generation Internet era.
The Korean Times reports that the National Internet Development Agency (NAIDA) will take on the work of the Korea Network Information Center (KRNIC) expanding its business to take charge of the nation's Internet infrastructure.
Lee Kye-nam, who leads the NAIDA's planning division, said of the development: "With this enhanced role and increased responsibility we're really going to try and fire on all cylinders for Korea to live up to the reputation as an Internet powerhouse.
MIC official Kang Jang-jean added: "As the Internet increasingly weaves itself into the fabric of our daily life, the NAIDA's mission of upgrading the nation's cyber environment is extremely significant."
An affiliate of the Ministry of Information and Communication (MIC), the KRNIC has mainly focused on allocating and managing the nation's kr domains. NAIDA will play a pivotal role in developing Korea's Internet infrastructure and securing glitch-free cyberspace on top of the domain operation. © DeHavilland Information Services plc
