New image for Jeeves

Posted 14/09/2004

The search engine company, Ask Jeeves, is undertaking an image re-vamp by treating its hallmark character, the butler Jeeves, to a makeover.

The company confirmed yesterday that Jeeves was "taking a break" and that he would return at some point.

Speculation is now mounting that Ask Jeeves could drop the current incarnation of Jeeves for good.

"After four years serving on the net Jeeves has taken a bit of a break, apparently embarking on a journey of discovery," the company said in a statement.

"He will be back but it's still unclear what Jeeves will look like on his return."

Last month Ask Jeeves launched a search offering in China with a new look butler.

The Ask.jp butler was slightly more jovial and had ditched his red necktie for a bowtie
