Yahoo goes local with directory servicePosted 04/10/2004
Yahoo has developed a local search engine service that functions as a targeted service for regional areas.
After two months of testing the search engine heavyweight is starting to integrate the new function into its wider offerings, with the final touches now being applied.
Paul Levine, general manager, Yahoo Local, says the incorporation of local ratings and reviews for local businesses had been a key feature.
It enables users to identify local services within their area and offers refinement tools such as the ability to limit results by distance, price or rating.
Yahoo is seeking to capitalise on growing demand for online Yellow Pages-style directories, with the Kelsey Group estimating that 37 per cent of these searches are now performed online.
