Yahoo unveils personalised searchPosted 06/10/2004
Internet giant Yahoo has launched a beta version of its new personalised search service, My Yahoo! Search.
My Yahoo Search features the ability to Save, Block, Share, and Find personalised search results, enabling users to create personal folders, record personal data and share their favourite links via email or RSS (Really Simple Syndication).
The service also enables users to block "search spam," or certain search results that the user doesn't deem valuable.
"This will become the foundation for your own personal web," said Eckart Walther, director of product management for Yahoo Search.
Yahoo declared on its blog: "Today, the Web is a read-only source of information for most users; our vision is of a very individual Web - a "My Web", if you will - which each user creates by searching, browsing, navigating, and generally doing the things they always do. My Yahoo! Search is our first step in that direction."
Search company Google has been testing its lab version of a personalised search, while Eurekster and AskJeeves have both brought out their own personalised search services. The major search engines are adding a raft of new search tools in a bid to encourage more visitors.
